Club held it first annual competition for the Levin Shield on the Basin Reserve on Saturday afternoon The weather was far from favourable, ant the high wiDd prevented good kicking. •hi attendance was mainly confined to memberi of the clnb and their friends, very few of thi outside^ public being aware that sports wer< beinir held. Mr. G. Faohe, as Secretary, per formed his onerous duties uio.Bt satisfactorily while the deoisions of the judges left n< caaso of complaint. Owing to darknesi Betting in Bomo of tho evonts had to bi postponed, and three competitions havo stil to be decided. M'Loau is at present leading !or the shield with 16 points, closely followet by strange (14), Rowo (13) and K. l>. Dttu can (12). Following is a short account of th< events : — Half-Mile Clnb Race.— J Murray (70yds) 1 j T. It. Hord (70yds), 2 ; J. Koacbe (50yds) 3. Won by about a yard, a good race be tweon the second and third men. Fiftoei started for tho event, which was run ii football costume and boots. Time, 2mii t" sec. THE LEVIN SHIKJ/D.
