The split between sections of the Labonr Party inside and outside Parliament is becoming more and more intensified. Several of the former have signed the requisite pledge, while the others firmly resent" it. S IBy Telegraph. 1 _ I UNITED PREBB ASSOCIATION. I 1 Christchurch, 22nd April. L Yesterday afternoon Mr. W. W. Collins, M.H.R., waited upon the Minister for Lands 1 with reference to the unemployed question. ' The Minister said he would arrange for 1 25 men to be sent to the North Island to bushfelling work next week, and would also issue instructions that from 25 to 30 more men should be sent to the Cheviot at once. Mr. W. W. Collins . has been elected Chairman of the Christchurch branch of the Shearers' and Labourers' Union. It was . resolved at a meeting of the Union to warn [ members not to enter into oontracts to go to Australia, as trouble is impending there. Auckland, 21st April. The Hon. W. P. Beeves received a deputation at Dargavilie from the Gumdiggers' Executive Committee. The deputation introduced various questions- establishment of relief works, the alien question, the truck system on the gnmfields, and land settlement. The Minister promised to aid them ! as far as was reasonable, and said he would ; telegraph to the Premier. He would also oonsult the Minister of Lands.
