CRICKET.
The protest entered by the Wellington Cricket Club in regard to the Third-class Championship waß considered at a meeting of the Association held at the Occidental Hotel last night. Mr. C. Cross presided. The Wellington Club ol&imed the championship, on the ground that it had already defeated the Kilbirnie team, and should therefore not be called upon to play a final match. Mr. Selling proposed and Mr. Cowlam seconded, that the protest should not be considered, on the ground of the objection not having been laid in time. This waa lost on the voioes. Mr. Brittain moved that the question of the Third-class Championship be left in the hands of the Third-claas Com* mittee, aud that the feeling of the Association waa that the Wellington Clnb, having already defeated Kilbirnie, should not be called upon to play them again. The motion was seconded by Mr. £. Upham. An amendment by Mr. Cowlam, to strike out all the words after " committee," was rejected. JL further amendment, moved by Mr. Hodgins and secondod by Mr. S. Tripe, that the Wellington team be doolarad winners of the Championship, was lost on the casting vote of the Chairman. Mr. Brittain's motion was carried, and the meeting adjourned. At a meeting of the Third-class Committee held immediately afterwards, the protest of the Wellington Club was upheld, and that olub is therefore the winner of the Thirdclass Championship, having scored the greatest number of points. It was arranged that the present match between the Wellington and Kilbirnie third-olasa teams, begun last Saturday, should be continued today. F.
