Some sensational evidence was given today during the hearing of a libel action brought by the jockey Hayes against The Australasian. The plaintiff claims .£SOOO damages. The evidenoe of Tom Payton, horsetrainer, showed that last year Hayes was guilty of foul riding,*and that besides preventing a horse from winning he endangered the life of another jookey by crushing his mount on to the rails. Huxley, the well-known jookey, gave corroborative evidonoe. One of the witnesses, who owned a racehorse, disclosed an arrangement entered into with Hayeß to " pnll " a certain horse, but admitted that Hayes had ruined him by losing a race. Tho hearing of the caee is proceeding.
