'UNITID FBESB ASSOCIATION. I Nafikb, 7th Maroh. At the annual meeting of the Fire Brigades' Association Accident Assurance Society, the balance-sheet showed a credit balance of .£221 13 a Bd. The report, which recommended the reduotion of the contributions to 3a per member per year, was adopted. The following ofnoers .were eleoted :— President, Mr. Cummins ; Vice-Presidents, Messrs. Waterworth, Smith, and Bellringer ; Seoretary and Treasurer, Mr. Gilberd. The annual competitions began to-day on the Recreation Ground. The manual engine competition, dry, was won by the Gisborno team, and the Gisborno Brigade also won tho manual engine competition for threo men. The Hawera Brigade won the ladder rescue competition. In the hose and hydrant contest, the Christohurch Brigade was first. Tho Corowa representatives, from New'Sonth Wales, worked at a dioadvantage, but their style was inferior to that of the New Zealand teams. This Dat. Tho Hose-Reel and Ladder Competition for five men, resulted as follows : — Timaru, 36seo, 1, £25; Dunedin, 39 3-sth sco, 2, £15; Gisborne, 39 4-sth sec (2 sec penalty), 3, .£10 ; Hawera, 40 sec (2 sec penalty), 4, £5.
