At a \» ell-attended publio meeting last night in the Athenmum Hall to consider the proposed by-iaw^respeoting Btreet-prpaobing and open-air religious Borvices, the following resolutions were passed :—" That the new by-law is unjust in its character and an unnecessary interference with the rights and liberties of the citizens ; (2) That inasmuch as the principal Counoils claim the right to pasß by-laws affecting the rights and liberties of all citizens, all men and women over 21 should be entitled to vote in the election of Mayor and Councillors of cities and boroughs ; (3) 1 hat the law shonld be amended so that all existing and future by-laws of local bodies shall be submitted to the Governor-in-Counoil for revision and approval ; (4) That a copy of this resolution bo Bent to the Mayor and Premier." The second resolution evoked some dissont, but it was carried. The Hon. W. D. Stewart, M.L C, convenor of the meeting, presided. The proposed now city by-law dealing with street preaching was discussed yostorday by a meeting of ministers and others representing the Baptists, Presbyterians, Congregatipnalists, Wesleyans, and Primitive Methodists, and a oommittoo was appointed to watch events. Surprise was expressed that tho tradeß unionß had not taken the matter up.
