THE LICENSING ELECTIONS

Tho Prohibition Party in the Kaiapoi eleotorate have chosen the following candidates to contest tbe licensing election in the Prohibition interest : — Rev. H. H. Mathias, Messrs. Is-iio Wilson, G.Wallace, W. Harrison, Thos. Wilson, A. D. Hassall, W. Turner, and H. Seed. Hokitiica, 24th February. The Government has refusod the application of tho local bodies for assistance to defray the cost of tho licensing elections, giving as a reason that there is no appropriation for the purpoeo, while the Aot of last sesßion provides that the local authority shall defray all coats. About 200 names have been struck off the electoral roll owing to deaths and removals. Auckland, 24th February. Three thousand claims for enrolment havo been received for the city, and close on 1000 for Parnell, Eden, and Manuknu. The names of 10,000 people have been struck off the City of Auckland, Parnell, Eden, and llanukau rolls. Duwicdin, This Day. A. Bartleman, W. Hislop, and Keith Ramsay stand on the independent ticket for the licensing elections. H. S. Fish, the Mayor, will also be a oandidate.
