THE NORTH ISLAND TEAM.

The team seleoted to represent the North Island in the match against the New South Wales team on the Basin Reserve on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, is as follows : —Hawera : Mills and M'Donough. Auckland : I. Mills and Fowke. Napier : Lusk. Wellington : Upham, F. Ashbolt, Holdship, Fitzsimons, R. Biocklock, and Cross. The team may fairly be classed as a strong combination in all departments of the game. Of the new men M'Donnagh, of Hawera, is a fitßt-claes bat, with an English reputation. His performances this season in matches of big district stamD him as a player of more than average ability. Mills, a brother of the Auckland crack, is a bowler likely to cause considerable trouble to the visitors, and oan be depended on to at least run into double figures. Lusk, who hails from Hawkes Bay, is a fine batsman, with a high average in the H&wkes Bay championship matches, a good bowler, and splendid field. He should prove a tower of strength to the eleven. h'even of the team are good bowlers, and in this department, a* compared with the New South Wales players, the advantage distinctly rests with the North Islanders. It is aleo exceptionally strong in batting. Fowke will be unable to play, aa he cannot obtain the neoessary leave. Niven will probably take his place. CroBS is at present in Wanganui on business connected with the New Zealand Shipping Company, and it is by no meant oertain that he will be here ir. time when the match starts. Should this prove to be the case, C. Gore or Williams will be asked to play. Gore's noninolusion in the original seleotion, especially after his recent display in the New Zealand match, will cause surprise to the publio who take an interest in cricket. He is seemingly considered good enough to represent thi whole colony bnt not to represent a part of it. He is a better all-round player than either R. Blaoklock or Cross.
