Mrs. Newman will be present. J. W. WHITTON. 0 THE ELEOTORS OF WELLINGTON. f ADIES AND GENTLEMEN— I intend LJ to offer myself for eleotion as a repremtative of Wellington City. " It will be naturally asked by you what aim or claims have I to seek the suffrages ! such an important constituency? I will iply to the question as briefly as possible. 1 the first place I represented, for two Paramentt, one of the chief electorates in the olony, viz., Dunedin Central, defeating jme able and prominent citizens. I Btood ireo times for the same constitnenoy, and r as defeated once by three votes. The last me I contested the seat, I was returned g«inst a very clever man by a big majority. This fact goes to prove that my contituents recognised the fact that I had done ly duty honestly and consistently, and that kept all the pledges made to them For twenty years I have fought for the jiberal Party with voice and pen, and have dvocsted the cause of the workers withont landering to the extremists who try to lupe the 'toilers by making them believe hat men possessing capital, no matter how ioneßtly acquired, are their natural enemies. Leaving such questions as the State 3ank, the Single Tax, and the immediate Regeneration of Mankind to the number of eformers who are at present wooing, with [lowing eloquence, and sometimes with ;lap-trap, the electors of New Zealand, I shall select one broad plank in my platform, md gink or swim on it. X beg to speoially lirect the attention' of the Todies to this point in my programme, as they are more deeply interested in it, for, as a rnle, they have a warmer affection for their offspring than that possessed by members of the coarser sex. The plank I refer to is Tm Recognition op God in oub Public and Private Schools. I am no Chadband, nor even a Joseph Surface, but I recognise this fact, that unless a reverence for the Almighty is inenlcated there will be no respect for parents. I agree with Bishop Julius that a Scriptural text-book, embodying the magnificent poetry of the Bible, should be used in all our State ichooli, and I think that Catholics and members of other denominations who believe in more definite religious touching should be aided on the oapitation prinoiplo Dealing with minor matters, I believe that there has been too mnoh cheeue-paring in the Civil Service Department, and I think that when men are reduced to starvation salaries they perform their duties in a half-hearted tor mer. I am convinced that the Railway Commissioners have done good service to the country, and if returned 1 will do my utmost to retain them in office. I believe that when respectable hotels are closed by a vote of the people, it is only just and equitable to compensate the proprietors. On returning from Christohurch I shall have the pleasure of addressing you, but in the meantime you can take it for granted that I will go to the poll, and if those who desire to see young New Zeahvnders bronght up to reverence God are sincere, they cannot fail to vote for Yonrs faithfully, THOMAS BRACKEN. TP ELECTION CANDIDATES. npO LET! TO LET THEATRE ROYAL, MONDAY, 27th NOVEMBER. • Applj MR.T~ST. CLAEB, Boyal Oak Hotel. For continuation of Election advertitemenb let fourth page. NOTICE. HTJTT COUNTY COUNCIL. TO THE RATEPAYERS PORIRUA RIDING. I BEG to thank you for the confident you have shown by returning me at thi bead of the poll, and will do my best for tbi benefit of the Biding. Yonrs, WILLIAM JILLETT
