Our Woodville Letter.

fOur Own Correspondent. J Woodville, 17th July. The police at Woodville are commencing to prosecute the disturbers of the Salvation Army. On the occasion of the last visit of Colonel Bailey, Woodville was a pandemonium. The streets were full of people desirous of Beeing Colonel Bailey atone for his alleged ill-treatment of Captain Stevona, and the assaults outside, which consisted of the usual filthy missiles, mob ejaculations, <te., were continued in a milder degree in the barracks. The windows were broken, and the place in a state of riot Twice before, the Salvation Army have laid informations against distnrberß of their meetings, and have on each occasion said they did not -ui-h to press the charge The culprit, who on each ocension was the same man, was let off with a nominal fine. A police prosecution is, however, a different matter, and no doubt these much-persecuted peuple will in future receive protection at the bands of the authorities. Mr. W. W Carlilo, of Woodville, is holding meetings all over 'lio riding, and addressing tho farmers on the breeding of pigs for mess-pork, with what success has not yet transpired. Mr. Carlile.lms declared himself a candidate for the Waipawa seat. Mr. Haggen intended to run it, but has given place to Mr. Carlile this time. He will contest it against Mr. Carlile or any other person who may offer himself at tho election following next election. The Woodville Co-operative Compnny, with a branch at Maharahara, are now in full swing in their splendid premises. Messrs. Montesal Brothers are, however, meeting the times by lowering their prices to the competition standard. There can be no doubt that purchasers n ill be able to get everything they rcquiio in Woodville at a price that will induce them to buy there. It is expected that a big sum will be placed on the Estimates this year for the construction of the Woodville-Ekotahuna failway, and it is said by tho Department that no portion of the line will bo pushed more than another, in order that it may be opened right through to Woodville in about two years from now, if the Honse will vote a sufficient sum. A meeting of settlers was held at Kumeroa on Monday night to consider proposals for a butter factory or creamery. Mr. Charles Hall , of Woodville, foi warded a letter to the meeting sotting forth the proposals of the New Zealand Farmers' Dairy Union, which were unanimously agreed to. A guarantee of 200 cows will bo given, and shares are being actively canvassed for. Knmeroa iB about 4} miles from a railway station, and will prove a good feeder to the Palmerston factory. There was also a discussion on the breeding and feeding of pigs for sale to the company of which Mr. Vecht is the agent, but no definite idea could bo obtained of the quantity likely to be supplied, whioh the Woodville A. and P. Association is trying to obtain. The Misses Albu's concerts were a failure, through bad weather and insufficient advertising. The Mangaatoa Valley settlers will decide to-morrow night in regard to the offers mode by the Now Zea'and Dairy Union to erect a creamery to supply the Palmerston factory.
