THE AUSTRALIAN CRICKET TEA M. THE SOMERSEISHIRE MATCH.
I UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. I London, 20th July. Tho weather having cleared at Tannton, it was decided to proceed with the match between tho Australians and Somersetshire. The recent rains had rendered the wicket very heavy, and all in favour of the bowlers. M'Leod, Jarvis, and Walter Giffcn were omitted from tho visiting team. The county team batted first, and were all out for 119. Tho leading scorers were Palairet (30) and Hdl (21). Turner took four wickots for 43, Coningham two for 19, Trumblo two for 13. The crowd was vary angry when the decision was coma to to postpone tho match. Though the sun w as shining, tho ground was very wet. Owing to a misunderstanding, it was believed that the colonials desired to avoid the match. As the Australians passed the townsfolk they were hooted, bnt the spectators at tho field of play cheered them. Kventnally tho umpire re-examined the ground and oidered a t>tait to be made. The bowlers got a lot of work on tho ball, and tho batsmen, in trying to force the score, wero nearly all caught out. Tho third wicket fell with tho total at 72. The remainder, however, collapsed. The fielding of the visitors was good, especially that of Graham, Bruee, and Trumble.
