THE UNEMPLOYED AGITA TION.

This morning additional signatures of unemployed were received to the lists supplied by the Labour Bureau, a meeting being held on the reolaimod land for that purpose. Speeches were also made by Messrs. White and Eagle. Mr. White said the way in which tlia names woro ooming in would rather open the eyes of tho Government, and Mr. Seddon in particular. The correctness of the representations made by the recent deputation was being effectively demonstrated. Mr. Eagle said that if the Government wanted to solvo the unoniployod difßonlty it must make no invidious distinctions in selecting men for work, and ho nrged all who had tho futuro of New Zealand and the future of themselves and of their children at heart to interest themselves in preventing any class feeling arising. A Voice— Ton want to run the country. Mr. Eagle next proceeded to adversely criticise the newspaper comments on tho present agitation. Mr. White hoped tho time was not far distant when the working men of the city would have an organ of their own, which wonld adequately represent their interests, and he urged his hearers to vote at the ooraing elections only for those who helped them to secure their rights. Messrs. White and Clothart supply oi with the following details of the enrolment of unemployed to date : — Now Zealand, 170 ; New South Wales, 14 ; Viotoria, 8 ; Queensland, 5 ; Tasmania, 3 : South Australia, 1 ; Western Australia, 1 ; England, 5 ; Ireland, 2 ; India, ) ; total, 210. In addition there are 20 names without particulars. Tho lists are to be kept open tilt 10 o'clock to-morrow. It is remarked as a singular coincidence that since it was decidod that tho Labour Bureau should give preference to New Zealanders and married men, it bos been found very difficult to find any Australians or single men, and that the yonnger the man the larger the family he claims to possess.
