I UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. I SrDNET, 22nd Juno. The shipowners have merely acknowledged the receipt of the seamen's letter requesting a conference to discuss the question of the reduction in wages. It is understood that ono of the soamen'a proposals, if the conference had been granted, would have beon for tho establishment of a system of sharing the profits made by tho owners. A conference totweon the colliery-ownera and tho miners of the Northorn Colliery has boen arranged for next month. The Government hus made enquiries, through tho Agent-Gcnoral in London, as to the prospects of Paraguay, in view of tho early departure of emigrants from New South Walos to form tha Now Australia setlement. Tho Paraguayan Consul in London has informed Sir Saul Samuel that the country is most suitable for agricultural industries for people witli means, but he doe? not advise emigrants without money to go there.
