KAISER WILHELM'S KINDNESS.
The Emperor of Germany has done a very good-natured thing. The other dtiy he reoeived a letter in a boyish hand, which ran thus : — " Dear Mr. Emperor, I should like to go to college and study theology, but my father has several children, and it is impossible." The writer wus the son of a small manufacturer at Marburg. The worthy tradesman was sent for by the Landrath, to whom the Emperor had forwarded the letter for inquiries to be made about his unknown correspondent. Presumably tho Landrath's report was favourable, for news has just been received which haß filled the heart of the young student of theology with j<>y. The Emperor lias awarded him a scholarship of a hundred marks a year for three years.
Fees in connection with some appointments in the Romish Church far exceed tho*e of the Church of England. The ceremonial ronnooted with conferring a " hut" costs each cardinal £1 000.
