A Clerk's Bankruptcy.

Owing to there being no quorum of the creditors of Robert Hill, clerk, at the meeting convened foryt-sterday, only an informal meeting could bo held. Tho debtor was placed on oath by Mr. Graham. Official Assignee, and stated that the reason for his present difficulties was his having taken ■shares in the Mokau Coal Company. He had borrowed money from tho To Aro Loan Company, which he had been unable to pay. He was arrested by Mr. doggie for the recove: y of a dishonoured cheque, and finding that his household goods wore seized, ho thought that the best way to protect his bedding for the sake of his family was to file his petition. In 1890 he had .£6OO left him, and this he had spont in maintaining his wife and children. He had done little or nothing since ho received this legacy. He had given his wifo .£3O and a piano out of the .£6OO. The piano he had promised to the To Aro Loan Company as security for a loan of .£3O, but hia wife removed the instrument from his honse, as she regarded it as her pioperly His wife had since borrowed money for the purchaso of clothes. The Official Assignee commented severely on the debtor's condnct in (ailing to complete a bill-of-sale to the To Aro Loan Company, to include the piano, as security for tho money he had borrowed from thorn. The debt «r said he had done nothing for months, consequently ho could mako no offer to his creditors. Mr. Whitehouse, Secretary to tho Te Aro Loan Company, who was the only creditor present, intimated that ho would consider whether h ■ should prosecute the bankrupt. Tho meeting then closed.
