FRIENDLY SOCIETIES DEMONSTRATION. TO THE EDITOR.
Sik — Your correspondent, Joseph Gridley, writing in this evening's issue, suggests that the committee of the above should appeal to the variode bands of the city to ffive their services free on tho occasion of the Demonstration, as he believes it would be found much to the benefit of tho bands when fuuds are_ sought for future band contests to bo held in the colony. Possibly your correbpondent may not bo aware of tho fact that a band contest was held in this city aome two months ago, which proved a miserable failure on account of tho poor support accorded by the Wellington public generally, and I believe I am correct in stating that this is ono of the reasons why a request of the natnre suggested, already proferred by ihe Demonstration Committee, has been ireated with scant courtesy at the hands of the Bands. I am, &c, Bandsman. sth January.
