Nicholson, stipendiary magistrate, haa been arrested at the instance of the directors of the Permanent Economic Building Society, for which he acted as solicitor. The nature of the charge has not transpired. Vor the first half of the financial year the roctipts have been less than expected, but the figures are satisfactory, and the deficiency is certain to be made up during the next half of the year. Sydney, 2nd January. Owing to rains causing sleepers to slip, an engino on the Blayney line fell over an embankment. Willoughby, the driver, was killed, and the fireman and several passengers injured. The breakage of the couplings saved the train from total destruction.
