RE THE OLD DIE-HARDS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir — I was greatly sarprisod to road the article in your Supplement of Saturday re tho " Old Die Hards," and I for one fail to see where the honour and glory cornea in so far as they are concerned. From your article, it ia clear that the 57th Regiment formed a portion of the "confused and broken multitude " from which the 7th and 23rd Fusiloer Regiments alone were able (apparently on account of their superior discipline) to separate themselves, and by so doing saved the said "confused and broken multitude " from annihilation or capture. As your article only mentions three regiments, viz., the 7th, 23rd and 57th, and states that the 7th and 23rd recovered five guns and one standard, the inference clearly is that the missing standard belonged to tho 57th. Next time your correspondent, who is evidently an old blow hard (I moan " Die Hard ") writes you on the point, it is to be hoped he will not misuse extracts from well-known works when attempting to uphold the glory of his own corps at the expense of the gallant rogiment who saved it jrpm destruction. I am, &0., Taffey.
