Bofore the presentation of the prizes to the Wellington Guards last night, Captain Patorson made a few remarks with reference to the Tolunteer forco of tho colony generally, and in doing so replied very thoroughly to reasons advanced by those who state that " volunteering in the colony is a farce." Mr. Seddon, Dofenoo Minister, stated that the voluntoers, as a volunteer force, -would always have his support as boing necessary for the dofenco of tne colony, and moro suitable than a paid, or partially paid, force. Tho National Review for July contains an article writton from Wellington by Mr. Norwood Young, giving a very clear and accurate account of the nature and effect of the new taxation, and the policy of the present Government.
