I UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. 1 (Reoeived July 8, 0.30 p.m.) Melbourne, This Pat. The mine owners at Broken Hill decline to hold a conference with tlio men. Mr. Knox, Secretary tothe Owners' Association, has telegraphed to tho Government of New South Wales that tho Government of the neighbouring colony had offered its assistance to protect the mines. Tho Sydney authorities replied that they preferred to deal with tho question on their own responsibility, and cautioned Mr. Knox against creating inteiferenoe, which wonld provoke il'.-feoling aud tend to nostpono a complete settlement of the difficulty.
