| UNITED FREBS ASSOCIATION. I Auckland. 17th June. Mrs. James Coates, relict of the late Mr. James Coates, first Sheriff of Auckland, and Clerk of the Executive Council in Governor. Hobßon's time, diod to-day, aged 73. She arrived in the colony in 1841. The deceased was the mother of Mr. James Coateß, manager of the Auckland branch of tho National Bank. A Salvation Army officer, Staff Captain Alderton, arrived by the steamer Ruapehu, to be stationed at Dunedin. He was manager of General Booth's farm colony at Hadleigh, on the Thames, but it is not known whether he comes here in connection with the over sea scheme. This Day. Frank Duffy, a (rum-digger, was found dead in a whare at Mairotaihi, 22 miles from Helensville. He was 60 years of age, and was last seen alive on Sunday. An inquest will be Ijold. Invercaboill, 17th June. The Postmaßtor-Geueral. loft for Wellington last night. Otaki, This Day. The Hon. R. J. Seddon addressed a largelyattended meeting at Mannkau last night, and met with a hearty reception. At the conclusion of the address, which lasted two hours, a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Seddon, coupled with a motion of confidence in the Government, was carried unanimously. Dunedin, This Day. John Brown, one of the unemployed sent here from Christchurch, has been sentenced to two months' imprisonment for shop liftijjg, "He was also before the Court the other day for a'riinTfel^nos's. New Plymouth. This Day. The new Drill Hall was opened to,day at 2 p.m. by Col. Stapp, who banded "over to the Taranaki Volunteers tho colours presented to the Militia and Volunteers by Lady Warre, wife of General Sir H. Warre, in 1861. They will be hung over the memorial tablet, with the names of the first men tilled in the early war with the Maoris here. =====
