The Stranding of the Charles and Arthur.

♦ THE CAPTAIN'S ERROR OP JUDGMENT. I By Tkleoeaph.J | united fbeBs association. i Wanganui, This Day. Th« magisterial enquiry into the stranding •f the Charles and Arthur on the Wanganui bar was concluded yesterday. The decision of the Court was against the captain, who, the Magistrate said, had committed an error of judgment in attempting to enter the harbour without hoisting his number. The signals were certainly " Take the bar," but they were for an outgoing vessel. The Court stated that they believed the captain honestly thought the signals were for him. They did not think the error of judgment grave enough to necessitate any interference with his certificate, which was returned ; bnt the captain was ordered to pay the costs of the enquiry.
