Fatal Railway Accident.

A distressing accident, resulting in the death of Mr. D. F. Anderson, storekeeper, of Paraparaumu, who formerly carried on a similar business in Wellington at tho corner of Manners and Herbert s>treots, occurred on tho Wellington and Manawatu Railway lino early last evening. It appears that Anderson was on his way homo by tho 5.30 train, nnd was standing on the platform of a smoking carriage situated almost at the rear of tho train. When tho train was approaching; tho viaduct, just tho other sido of Johnsonvillo, Anderson was seen to fall backwards, having, it is presumed, lost his balanco by the jerking of the carriages in turning tho curvo at that point. Being at the time in tho aut of loading his pipe, ho was naturally unprepared for any sudden movement of the carriage. The train was stopped as soon as possible under the circumstances, it being on a downward grade, and returned to the man's assistance. His body was picked up and taken baok to Johnsonville on tho train, which thon rosnmod its journey. A message was forwarded from Johnsonville to Dr. Collins, who went out by a special train placed at his disposal by the company, but on his arrival Anderson, who had been removed to tho Railway

Hotel, was doad. His injuries consisted chiefly of a frightful wound on the Dack of tho head, tho Bcalp having boon almost completely torn off. In falling he is believed to havo struck his head against tho # stono cutting, and death was probably instantaneous. The Coroner (Mr. H. W. Robinson, R.M.) will hold an enquiry regarding the accident at the Railway Hotci, Johnsonville, at G. 30 thia evening.
