Tho final attempt to tow off the Elginshire on bohalf of tho owners was made yesterday, and was a failure . The vcssol had not moved an inch at 6 p.m., when tho tags cast off. Notico of abandonment was givon, and Captain Ticohursfc took possession on bohalf of tbo underwriters. Tho orew wore taken off, but tho engineers and firemen woro reengaged, and kept the refrigerators and pumps going. Tho vessel is not making much water to-day. A strong force of mon, with surf boats, and tho kotch Comet, have been taken down to discharge all tho cargo. Only a few hundrrd 4 carcases of mutton were thrown over previously. Thoy will tr^r to save the moat by landing it hero and railing it to tho various freezing works. It is reported, however, that tho meat in the main chamber is tainted. After tho discharge, tho tags are to bo put on a<;ain, and the present managers hope to soo her afloat in 'IS hours. Tho sea is qniot to-day. Thousands of people congregated to witness yesterday's pull by the two tugs and tho s.a. Brunner. The latter was tast to tho linos from the maintop, whioh caused a slight roll when the sudden strain was put on, but there was not tho faintest pitch on, tho seas rnnning fore and aft.
