An Exciting Scene.

After their bathe they aejifcea themselves upon one of the hjghest rooks, and, after a brief timo, Tjtfro greatly terrified to find that the tido had completely cut them off from the beach Their cries for help brought large numbers of people to the beaoh, who made desperato efforts to reach the rock by ladders and ropes, but without snecoss. All this time the tido was rushing in fast, and a heavy ground tea was breaking upon the rooks and against the cliffs. Several gentlemen visitors mado attempts to swim to the "ook.bnt were compelled by the strong rush tho lnoonring tide to desist, and wore .brown on the beach thoroughly exhausted No boats are kept at Trovone, and as I a last effort it was resolved to tie a ropo around the waist of somo one and ! for him to endeavour to reach the rock. A yonth named Kerlrin, a carpenter, volunteered for this service. His struggles to make headway through tho seething water were watched with intense anxioty by the orowd, among whom were the mother, sister, and brother of the three ladies. Just before he reaohed the rook the ropo slipped from him. Kerlrin reaohed the rook thoroughly exhansted, and had to remain some timo on the rook to recover his strength before he attempted to swim ashore. Afore than an
