[Bt Tblxorafh.J [unitrd peeßß association.] Nelson, This Day.
Last evening tho Hon. Mr. Soddon, Minister for Defence, inspected tho volus* toors at thoir monthly parade, and complimented them highly. Ho said tho country must roly on tho volunteers mainly for it's Erotcction, and that it had boon resolved y tho Govornmont to continuo for throo yoars tho presont rato of capitation, which was low enough. It was not contemplated to havo but two camps next Easter, one for oaoh island, but to ma.es the volunteers round each of the four dpfoudod ports, and organise manoßUvres in which the vessels of the Auxiliary Squadron might take part. So far as the West Coast of this island was concerned, as Nelson was midway botwoen Marlborough and tho West Coast, he thought it would bo a convemont position for a camp, as a war vessel might also take part, but ho would consult Major Bonar and other officers before any docision was arrived at.
