♦ {Our Own Correspondent.) Woodville, This Dat. There was quite a sensation in town on Tuesday night over tho lady essayists at the Mutual Improvement class. Mrs. W. G. Crawford presided. Mißs Smith read an essay on " Marriage," and two essays were also Toad by Mrs. Walter Bickerton and Miss Davis .espectively. Tho matter was excellent, and tho discussion well sustained. Tho ladies' evenings in future will be very largely attended. | UNITED FBESB ASSOCIATION. J Auckland. 9th September. Daniel Simpson has been committed for trial at Mercury Bay on & charge of breaking and entering at Kuaotuna. > Considerable interest is being taken in the municipal elections. A strong north-easter, - with occasional ahowers, has prevailed all day. Dunedin. 9th September. The troubles which have prevailed among the Hugo's Minstrels for some time camo before the Resident Magistrate to-day, when four of the members sued C. Hugo for a week's wages in lieu of notice and the price of a passage to the place where they were engaged. Judgment wad given for tho members of the company in each caec.
