SHEARERS FOR QUEENSLAND. TO THE EDITOR.
Siß—l notice in your Saturday's issue an advertisement for shearers to proceed to Queensland. Now, sir, as a large number of our population have lately left our shores of thoir own free will, I object to this trying to induce a still larger number to loave tho country, especially the hard-working shearers and busiimon from tho country, tho chisfl of population that wo can most of all ill afford to loso. Bnt I do not Rupposo the 083 of population troubles the Employers Association, so long as thoy can assist tlio postoralists to stamp out tho Shearers and Bushmen's Union of Queensland. Tho shearers and pastoralists of South Australia mot in opon conference a short time back and settled their differences in a most friondly manner. Why could not tho pastoralists of Queensland meet tho shearors in open conference without dragging in their fotish freedom of contract, which moans that tho men would have to work with niggors and Chinamen'( I trust tho shearers of New Zealand will think beforo placing themselves at the mercy of the pastoralists by signing an agreement to proceed to Queensland. I am, Ac, New ZkaijAndee. [Personal allusions havo boon excised.— Ed. E.P.]
