Turning to share market matters and mining business, although there has not been the same briskness and activity which ruled during tho previous week, still a fair amount of business has been dono at former and at advancing prices, with only very fow noticeable instances of receding. New leases and ground ocoupying likely positions, as affected by the recent improvement in different oporativo mines, continue to share some of the business doing, and this will of course lead to active work, thereby inoreasing tho likelihood of new disooVeries and frosh developments being made. Alston, a lease in tho Morrijigs district, from complete obsourity oamo into notice and sold at 6d, oqtial to JE6OO for the whole. Al, in the same looality, is mining on good stone, but shares are not muoh distributed yet. The result of t» joint survey Of tho Alexandra and Prima Donna should shortly bo known. Crushing at the Big River battery in in Hand ligtlini and though shares foil Slightly Ifi valho, buyerS remained unsupplied to - day at 19s. Blue Sky remain unchanged in prico, and nothing now at tho mine is yet announced. All the Drake stampers are running steadily on Cumberland stono, and this week's roturn is better than any yot receivod, with shares quoted at from 12s to 13s\ Durham have a steady onqniry and fair business dt slightly under last week's quotation. Tllo tunuol is driven 74ft into good country. Dudloy had business at former rate. Whon registration is complete these will come into better notice. In tho Exchange mine resumption of work in the level is anticipated, whon furthor developments of a substantial charactor are looked for. The Fiery Cross had a turn of business, sellers asking 6s lOd to-day. Goldon Load sold up to 10s lOd. The wire tram is to bo tested next week, and after that crushing should bo talked about. Gallant sold to 7d, with good enquiry, and the wlrisia has boell started oh tho surface stone. Tho Globo crushing is gradually improving, and splendid faces of stono are showing inside. Tho Happy Valley is still at the prospecting stage. _ Hard to Find, a company long dormant is suddenly prominent again, and with fair prospects ; more than half of tho shares forfeited for arrears wero readily placed at 3d, tho proceeds going to the company's iunds. Thero _is a quantity of stono to gross, a fair show insido the mine, and a flat tramway to be laid down whioh wil^ conneot with tho Drake battery. Active preparatory work is in hand at tho Inkermon mine, and at the Inglewood mine the tribntors are Sending out quark. Further sinking is in steady progross at the Dark mine, tad these shares improved within the last day or so to 16s. Work on Kapai loase starts after registration. Shares are wanted. Lord Howard had a brisk business up to 4s 3d last Saturday night, receding to business and buyers at lower prices later on. Buyers of Merryjig also offer less money. Business has been done in both the Oriental and Midland leases, and at the National work is to be shortly resumed. Indications of stone in tho winze being sunk in No. 2 Dark mine caused enquiry and business at about tho usual rates. Oi Polloi aro firm, and buyers aro unsnppliedat the prico offeringi There is a probability of tho Pandora Company taking in tlie Orion lease (formerly the Sdttth Woalth) and ro-forming. Progress resumes crushing during the next week. A demand for Success continues, and Scotia sold at Is. Drakes are at tho same figure. Russolls have enquiry which the appearances at the mine certainly justify, and ,-Triumph and Big Rivor district arc also wanted. A prospecting tunnol is in hand horo. Abettor feeling in United Alpino shows, and though a substantial margin seoms to separate buyer and sellor, the improvement cannot but have a good effect. Tho Tyne, Midland, and Tom Tidier leases all in tho Merrijigs locality, are in notice. Tho Welcome Mine. No. 9 level— A good track, carrying gold bearing stono, is being followed. Operations at the Wealth Mine continue as usual, and business in shares has been done at 3s Gd.
