Dunedin, 3rd May. Tbe Post and Telegraph officers held their first sooial reunion la3t evoning, the gathering being largely attended and a groat success. The Postmaster-General sent a letter atating that he would havo had muoh pleasure in boing prosent, but found ho had to leave for Invercargill on business wbich could not be delayed. Mr. W. Yourjg, President of the Post and Telegraph Society, presided, and numbers of pressmen attended by invitation. The fuoobbs of tho first sooial is likely to lead to its being an annual affair. Very cold weathor prevailed yesterday, with rain, and two very heavy showors of hail. No damage is reported. Auckland, 3rd May. Messrs. Seddon and Cad man arrived in Anoklacd on Saturday. Nelson, This Dat. An attempt was made by an incendiary last night to burn down a now unoccupied building belonging to Mr. T. Campbell in Bronte-street The incendiary had poured keroßcno at tho opening loft for a window, and dropped pome lighted paper afterwards. Portunatoly it did not burn through tho floor, whioh was muoh charrod.
