DROWNING FATALITY AT GISBORNE.

[By Tilkqrjuph.) [unitxd pbxßs association.] Gisborne, This Dat. Tho clothes of John Bourke, Town Clerk, were found at the er.d of the breakwater at 8 this morning. Bourke went to the breakwater to bathe at 6 o'olook, and has evidently been drowned. There is no sign of the body. Later. A careful searoh has been made for the missing John Bourke, but without result. It is thought likely the body will be found among the rooka at low tide. The deceased was aged 43, and has been Town Clerk of Gisborne for ten years, having previously been aocountant of the Union Bank at Gisborne, Nelson, and Inyercargill. His early dk'ys were spent at Napier. Mrs. Bourke states that her husband left home at 6 30 o'clock for a bathe, saying he wonld not be long away and would be baok for breakfast. The tea was very calm, but there was a vary swift ourrent Tunning, and, as the sides of the oonorete blocks were very Mippery, deceased would have had a difficulty in getting back on to the pier. He was esteemed by every oitisen, and his sad fate is a great shook to the community. [We learn that Mr. John Bourke is a brother-in-law of Dr. Pollen, of this oity, with whom Mrs. Bourke, sen., is now staying. Mr. Bonrke, whose untimely dcoease is here referred to, married, we believe, a sister of Sir W. Buller.J
