Tho debtor put in a written statement, from which it appeared that he attributed his present difficulties to illness on the part of his wifo and himself, and to the pressuro of two Judgment creditors. Tho bankrupt was subjected to a rather sevore examination on oath, in the conrse of which he stated that he had borrowed various sums of money from eight different publicans, who had lent hici the money out of friendship, to enable him to ward off other oreditors. He admitted that ho had lost £6 on Ilearn's boat race with Stephenson, but beyond this he had not lost .£lO in gaming during a poriod of sevon years. Eventually it was doodled to empower the Official Aeaignee to obtain a copy of the dobtor'a late father's will, with a view to ascertain if there was a likelihood of tho creditors obtaining anything tborofrom. Mr. Hiokton, who gained much renown up North as a successful horse tamer ana trainer, gave a very successful exhibition of his skill in tho Exchange Hall, li\3fc evening, before a largo number of people. Mr. Hickton introduced a lively-looking blaok four-year-old haok, whioh, he said, had never besn handled before. He timed him completely in a quarter of an hour. Mr. Hiokton announced that the horso. whioh would remain perfectly docile to the ond of his days, would be oxbibited this evening as a trick horse, and wonld perform a variety of manceavrcs and trioks whioh he would bo taught in the interim. At the conclusion of the horse-taming exhibition, Mr. J. Driscoll performed an act on tho elaok wire and also some oxcellent tumbling. In the conrse of bis address to the Field Naturalists' Clnb Sir James Heotor said that the collections in tho Museum would be found to greatly assist members in their researches. Ho was sorry that tho oxcossively crowded state of tho building offered tome obstacles, but ho could assure tho members that tho very best was done that could bo done under tho circumstances. Thero woro ovor one thousand boxes of valuable collections Btored in the lofts and cellars. These were a constant drain upon the time of tho exceedingly limited staff, for of course they had to be unpacked and examined at intervals to prevent their going bad. A meeting of the Wellington Rowing Club Ball Committee was held last night, when tho various sub-committees were appointed to carry out the arrangements and report to the meeting which is to be held next week. It is expected that this boll will be held on the same scale as last year's, whioh was such a deolded suocess. Judgment for plaintiffs was given in the Magistrate's Court this morning in the following oaies : — Property Tax Commissioners v. J. W. Thompson, 17s 2d ; Blundell Bros, v. D. Christie Murray, £2 Is 6d; Grace Harper r. Jane Howard : this was an action for the recovery of £13 15s rent due. Tho claim was abandoned, and judgment given for plaintiff for repossession of tho house, with £2 lla costs. Judgment for plaintiffs was also given as follows :— Grey Valley Coal Company v. John Shout, .£1 ss; same v. W. Spring, £1 4s 6d; samev. Mrs. Cadigan £1 Gs; same v. B. Bnoktidge, £15 16s 2d ; Jas. Reid v. H. B. Latham, £11 9s; John Fitebett v. C. A. Spoor, £15 ; J. J. Blake v. H. Knowles, 123 ; same v. S. Mason, ss ; Miller, Booth, and Co. v. W. A. Fordham, £8 5s 8d; Wellington Opera House Co. v. Frank Gerald and others, £71 3a 6d; R. Somer villa v. W. H. Cornoal, 7s Cd ; same v. W. M'Cullum, £1 10 a. The following orders were made in judgment summonses :— Georgo Worsfoll v. A. J. M'Curdy, olaim £16 12s 7d, defendant ordered to pay £1 per month from 4th August noxt, or in default 14 days' imprisonment ; John J. Booth v. Benjamin Holder, olaim £2 18s 9d, order for payment of £1 per month ; same v. same, olaim £0 8s Bd, order made for payment of £1 per month on Ist August, September, and October, £2 on Ist November, and the balanoe on Ist Docomber.
