Mossts Deasy and Cox, M.P 's, have entertained the Australian cricketers at a banquet. In evidence before the Colonisation Committee to-day, Sir Graham Berry, AgentGeneral for Victoria, stated that his Government would not assist immigration to the colony. Referring to Australia, he thought her greater than the United States in proportion to population. The Duke of Edinburgh opened the Edinburgh Exhibition to-day. During his stay in the city the Duchess' jewels were stolen from the hotel. It is rumoured that Mr. H. M. Stanley will be appointed Governor of Congo, In the House of Commons to-day, Mr. Stanhope, Secretary of State for War, promised to consider tho question of granting relief to destitute survivors of the famouß oharge of the Light Brigade at Balaclava. Mr. Goschen states that he has not sufficient timo to consider the Bill providing for tho investment of trust funds in colonial securities.
