Consecration of Bishop Julius.
IBt Telegraph.] [ukitid pee6h association. i Chbistchurch, This Dat. The consecration of Archdeacon Jalins as Bishop of Christchurcb took place this morning in the Cathedral. The admission WOO by ticket, and was limited to SOO. The doora were anuonnoed to be open at 10.30; but' half an hour before that time numbers were crowding round them. The congregation, which filled the Cathedral, waa essentially representative of the Diooeso over whioh the bishop-elect will proside. The chancel was tastefully decorated with obrysanthpinums and geraniums. The clergy having robed in the, tower entered the Cathedral by the western doorway, and passed up the nave to the ohanoel, led by tho Preoentor, tho Rev. W. Dfinkley, and followed by tho choir, plsrgy,' and canons (the Dein boing preceded by his verger bearing the maco, and the bishop - elect being similarly attended), the Bishops of "VVaiapn, Dunedin, and Nelson, Biabop Harper, and the Primate (the Bishop of Wellington), precoded by his chaplain, Arohdcacon Fancourt, bearing the crozier. The hymn "Onward Christian Soldiers" was sung as the processional. The communion service was performed by the Primate, Bishop Nevill read the epistle, and Biabop Suter the Gospel. After the recital of the Nioene oreed, the Primate preached, taking for hix text 1 Tim. iv. IG. " Take heed to thyself and unto the doctrine." After referring to the vioiaflitudea through which the Churoh had passed until the present day, he spoke of the duties of bishops, especially with reference to the preaching of sound dootrino and defending the word of Qod against the assaults of unbelievers. Addressing the Bishop-oloct, he referred to the high estimation in which Arohdcacon Julius' former work had been held, and pointed to tho eminent example of tho Venerablo Bishop Harper, whom he would succeed. The Bishop-elect was presented to tho Primate for conaeoration by Bishops Harper and Suter. The Hon. H. B. Gresson, Chancellor of tho Diocese, read the Primate's mandate for the conseoration. The Biahop-eleot then made a declaration of obedience to the Church of the Province of New Zealand. Tho Litany was then intoned by the Precentor. The questions appointed were put by the Primate, and answered by the Bishop elect in a clear, humble voice. A speoial hymn, the words of which were composed by the Bean, and tho music by Mr. Q. F. Tind&li, tho Cathedral organist. Was then sung, followed by the " Veni Creator," sung in unison without accompaniment, the congregation all kneeling. The imposition of bands having been made by all the bishops present, the Bible was handed to the nowly-oonseorated Bishop by the Primate. At the conolnsion of the oonseoration all the clergy present partook of the Holy Communion.
