Obituary — Lord Hammond, aged 88. Major Clarke, Secretary of the Colonial Defence Committee of the War Office, considers that it would cost .£50,000 to fortify King George's Sound, and it wonld be required to be garrisoned by 1000 men in time of war. He thinks it would be better to leave the Sound defenceless than for England to bear the whole of the cost. Bafore the Enabling Committee to-day, Sir William Robinson advocated that Western Australia Ehould have control of all lands until the new colony is established. The Paris correspondent of. the Daily News telegraphß that a Royalist conspiracy in Paris, to take action on the Ist May, has been discovered. Paris. 29th April. Lord Lytton. the British Ambassador at Paris, has notified the French Government that England desires the. regulation of Ootober, 1889, relative to the salvage of wrocked veaaels, mode applicable to Queensland.
