Boale, who gave evidence yesterday, said that daring the past few months he had attended & number of girls who were Buffering from incipient consumption and other diseases. He attributed this to overorowdiDg and insufficient nutritive food. The smallest amount of cubio space allowed to each person should be 600 cubic feet ; there Bhonld also be some system of inspection of factories by the Health Officer. In the evening, Isaac Hill, saddler, was examined, and complained of the boy system in the saddlery trade. He held that there ought to be three men to one boy in any shop. Most of the men out of work had gone away. It was almost impossible to form a Union, owing to the number of boys. The wages averaged about £.1 a week for tb,o men and 6s for the girls. It was only lately that girls had been employed. Boy§ going to learn the trade' got 5s a week, with 2s 6d rise every year for five years. At the end of that time they were supposed to be journeymen. This evidence waB corroborated by other witnesses, one of whom further said that saddles were now made there complete for Ss each, not counting stirrups and girths. J. W. Wilcox, tailor, said that owing to trade being slack he had been working as chimney sweep for six or seven years. It was better than tailoring, and there wero not so many boyßatit. ____________
