Collier, employed at Baillie'a sawmills, Papawai, was hauling a log from the bnsh to the Buamahunga Ferry when the log slipped and jammed Collier's leg against the aide of the sledge. He seized hold of a limb of a tree and hang on till the sledge had passed on, thereby saving his life, but his foot is crnshed, the ankle bone being smashed. After a deal of difficulty he was brought to Greytown Hospital, arriving about 5 o'olock in the evening. Dr. Bey, who attended him, has hopes of saving his foot.
