THE CHIEF OFFICER DROWNED. PASSENGERS AND CREW MISSING. [By Telegeaph.j {Our Own Correspondent.) Russell, This Dat. Arrived— Mawhera, s.s., from Fiji. Passengers, for Sydney— Hon. G. Morgan Orr : for Auckland— Mr. Lyland and six steerage. The four-masted steel ship Altmore has been wrecked on Vina West Island, Fiji group. The chief officer was drowned. The passengers and part of the crew have been out m the boats for 14 days, and had not arrived in Levuka up to the time of the Mawhera Bailing. [The ship Altmore is a vessel of 1716 tons, built of steel ; length, 265 ft 2in ; breadth, 39ft ; depth, 23ft 2in. She has two decks, and is rigged with four masts. She was built in Glasgow in June. 1887, by R. Duncan «Sc Co , and is owned by Thorn & Cameron, of Glasgow. Her class is 100 Al.]
