The Italian Government have refused to extradite two murderers who camo to Italy from Pennsylvania. Berlin, llth May. Over 100,000 colli< rs are out on strike at Westphalia. Anothor collision has occurred between the military and tho strikers, in whiph several of tho latter were killed, beside a number injured. The miners are bitterly incensed against tho military forces of Westphalia. Those on strike insist on the adoption of tho eight hours system. The Reichstag has adopted a Bill providing for the insurance of aged and indigent workmen. New York, 10th May. While a cage in the Kaska Colliery, Pennsylvania, was descending, the rope snapped and the cage fell a distance of 500 feet, killing ton colliers who were in it. Newa has been received from Honolnla of the death of Father Damien. The reverond gentleittan was highly respected, and his death occasioned deep regret throughout this city and also in London. Hong Kono, llth May. Information has reached here ihat tho b.s. Maridinas has been in collision off the Philippine Islands, and 60 persons were drowned. Calcutta, llth May. The British expedition against the Karens has been successful, over 150 of the enemy being killed. Ottawa, llth May. Tho Parliament of the Dominion has limited the Vancouver-Australian mail contract to 10 years. An amendment moved by Mr. Laurelh to the offeot that the acN vantage to be derived from this servioe did not justify the amount to be paid as a subsidy, was rejeoted by a majority of 22. The voting was as follows : — For the payment of tho subsidy, 77 ; against, 55.
