The creditors of Graves Aioken, one of the well-known Ellerslie land Byndioate, v?ho filed petitions of insolvency some time ago, have recommended his immodiate discharge from bankruptcy. Sydney Taiwhanga, M.H.E., was sued today at the Eesidont Magistrate's Court for .£2O 13s Id for bread snpplied, and "was ordered to pay in three months. The Magistrate (Dr. Giles) remarked, " You are one of those who make laws for the whole colony, and it doeß not look well for you not to pay your baker's bill." Uhristchuech, 10th May. A special session of the Diocessan Synod haa been summoned for 2lBt May to reconsider the whole question relating to the payment of the Property Tax on the English loan and the Btatus of the Church Property Trustees. Dunkdin, 10th May. At the annual meeting of the Social Reform Association it was stated that an invitation had been sent to Henry Gcorgo to visit the colony. A resolution was passed , in favour of land nationalisation. The Society has be on started to consider the questions of social reform, and it has already taken an active part in connection . with the sweating system. At a meeting of dentists, it was resolved ! to form a branch of the New Zealand Dental Association, and Mr. Boot was appointed a delegate to the meeting at Wellington to form the association. Tho number of students enrolled in the recently started technical classes is 204. It appears that the Department of Soienco and Art, London, is prepared, on the application of the Government or other publio authority, to arrange for tho examination of classes, issue certificates and returns of awards on the result of tho examination.
