A ball, in honour of the visit of Admiral Fairfax and the officers of the Squadron, was given at Government House last evening. The attendance was large, and the affair was a brilliant success. I Captain Mann, of H.M.S. Rapid, departs for Melbourne by the s.s. Waihora on Monday. The report that he has been commissioned to take charge of the Victorian fleet is not correct. Captain Mann is sim ply on leave at present, but will ultimately command the Victorian fleet. Admiral Fairfax has received a cable to the effect that H.M.S. Palumah, which it was annonnced some days ago had been ordered from Brisbane to Sydney, has sailed for the latter station. The vessel was transferred in order that she might be placed in commission, and her new crew will snortly arrive. _______ __^___
