MR. GLADSTONE ON DANIEL O'CONNELL. [special.] London, 3rd January. Mr. Gladstone, in an article in the Nineteenth Century, cays that Daniel O'ConneU was the greatest popular- loader of the oen,tury, and the greatest Irishman who evor i lived. He was superior to suck national •loadors as Kossuth, Mazzini, and Cavour. The English hatred to Ireland was inherited, and was indicative of the feelings of wrongdoers to the wronged nation. SENTENCES ON NATIONALIST M.P.'S. EVICTION EIOTS IN DONEGAL. [UNITED MESS ABSOOIATION. | London, Ist January. Mr. D. Sheehan, M.F., haa been oonviotert of conspiracy. Sentenco woo suspended owing to Ms ill-hoalth. 2nd January. Mr. J. Fnracano, M.P. for Limerick East, was sentenced to four mouths' imprisonment for conspiracy. Notice of appeal was given. 3rd January. Dosporato resistance was offored to tho evictions on Olphert's estate in Donegal. Two hundred police and soldiers were ongaged, and the latter were about to fire when a priest persuaded the people to surrender.
