Hutt Coanty Council.

An ordinary meeting of the Hutt County Council was held this morning; present — Councillors Wakeham (chairman), Lancaster, Darby, Monaghan, C. W. Brown, Death, Speedy, Taylor, and Barton. Messrs. R. Smith and J. J. Powell waited upon the Council on behalf of the Johnsonville Town Board, asking that the limits of the county road through that township should be properly defined for the guidanoe of property-owners. Councillor Lancaster objected to the request on the ground of expense -and fear that wholesale litigation would result if road lines throughout the county were adjusted. Mr. Bmith thereupon intimated that if the Council shirked its duty the Town Board would have to force its hand by legal process. Councillor Brown moved, and Councillor Darby seconded, that authority be given to the Johnsonville Town Board to make the necessary survey at its own expense. After an irregular discussion it was decided to allow the matter to stand over until next meeting. A report was received from Mr. Damant, Inspector of Roads, upon the dangerous condition of three bridges on the Ngahau-ranga-road, between the point known as the Blue Gums and Mr. C. Price's residence, owing to the silting up of the bed of the stream. The Inspector submitted alternative sobemee, bnt preferred one for the alteration of the course of the creek by cutting a channel on the western side of the road, so as to divert it from all the bridges with one exception. This would entail quiring a separate bridge into Tyer's tanyard. The cost of the new channel was estimated at .£IOO, while that of forming a new road to avoid the bridges will be £150. All Councillors present were appointed a Committee to visit the scene of the proposed opsrations, and report at next meeting. It was resolved that the next meeting of the Council be held on Tuesday, the 15th of January. General accounts amounting to .£126 19s, and charitable disbursements £50 3s, were passed for payment.
