Fourteen thousand shares wore represented. After a lengthy discussion it was resolved that tho best interests of the company would be served by it being carried on under new management. There waa only one dissentient voice. Dumedin, 10th Deoember. The Shakespeare Revival Society produced " Othello " to-night in a moat elaborate manner, the performers being all amateurs. The theatre waa crowded to excesa, and on the whole the performance was very creditable. New Pi/imouth, 10th December. Jesaie Petrie was today committed for trial for perjury, The hearing lasted five days. There are fonr 'other charges of perjury pending against different persons. Chrißtchurch, 10th December. Mr. Alfred Saunders addressed the eleotors of Probbleton to-night, and received a vote of thanks and confidence. He announced himself virtually independent of the present parties, criticising unfavourably the actions of -both Vogsl and Jftkinßon. Mr. E. G. Wright addressed thfe meeting strongly in Mr. Saunders' favour. Phil Kobinfon, the celebrated war correspondent, arrived from Dunedin to-night. Napier, 10th Deoember. At the animal meeting of the Charitable Aid Board to-day, the accounts showed a reduction in expenditure of nearly one-half, | and the Board to have ample funds in hand. This was mainly asoribed to the introduction of the labour test to all who sought admission to the refuge, and to the strict superviaion i over ontdoor relief, especially in the direction of making well-to-do relations maintain their pauper connections. Auckland, 10th December. It has aotnally been found necessary to olose Borne of the cases of valuable books and manusoripts in the Public Library owing to the depredations of visitors. One of tho through passengers by the Alameda was Mr. Longhead, jun., of Sarnia, California, who ia en route to Sydney with a party of Beven to agsist his father in the sinking of artesian wells, and boring for oil, gold, or coal, under contract to the New South Wales Government. William Sohimel, a through passenger by the Alameda, from San Francisco, was arrosted this afternoon on a charge of having in his possession four gold watches on which the duty had not been paid. The man Bryant has been committed for trial on the charge ot' indecent assault preferred against him.
