The Phoanix second were defeated on the Basin Beserve yesterday by an eleven representing the Fetone Clnb. The viotora made 182, the prinoipal contributors being Alpe (substitute) 44, Dryden (substitute) 38, Hinchcliffe 26, M'Kean (substitute) 25, B. 0. Kirk 14, and W. M. Whitehead 10. The total of the first innings of the Phoenix was 124, of which Webb made 32, Duncan 29, Hadfield 21, Beale 16, and Cato 11. In their seoond innings the Phoenix representatives had lost six wickets for 101 runs when time was oalled, Benbow being top scorer with 37 ; Webb 17, Douglas 10, and Angus 17 (not out), being the other successful batsmen. A match took plaoe on the Basin Beserve yesterday between the members of the Wellington Club who were not taking part in the contest with the Midland Club. Teams were ohosen by Buckland and Kreeft, the result being a victory for the latter by 53 runß. On the winning Bide.Buokle made 21, Leclue 20, Meek 12, Wilson 11, and Cohen 10, the principal contributors on the other sid» being Gore 19, and Gamble 15. The Wellingtons were victorious yesterday in their match with the Midlanders on the Basin Beserve. The Wellingtons made 137 — Moj-ey 37, Werry 20, Sanderson and Brooke 18 each, Pou 11, and A. Gore 10, being the principal contributors. Gillon took four wickets for 42 runs ; M'Girr three for 34; and Easton two for 23. The Mia. landers totalled 121, M'Girr making 38, H. Roberta (substitute) 34, and Mitchell 11. A. Gore, for the Wellingtons, took seven wiokeU for 33 runs.
