In the courao of his speech at the meeting j to promote the Paoifio oable, Lord Winohelsea said the present cable Bervioe was neithor efficient, continuous, nor oheap, whilst exposed to danger in the event of war. The proposed Paoifio cable would meat the requirements of British trade, and the land lines in oonneotion therewith would run through British territory. Tho colonies were favourable to the scheme, even New Sonth Wales itid Yioteria being in aooord on this question.
