The Melbourne Exhibition.
The local committeo of the Melbourne Exhibition held their final meeting in the Chamber of Commerce yesterday, Mr. J. B. Harcourt (Chairman) presiding. It was reported that thu Chairman and the Secretary (Mr. S. Carroll) had called at every place of business from Thorndon to Te Aro where it was considered likely that exhibits would be forthcoming A great disinclination to exhibit -was discoTored, arising partly from the unsatisfactory result of former experimenta with exhibitions and partly from au unwillingness to inonr expense. The committee reported that the fql. lowing persons had applied for space: — Mies £. Kate Sperry, painting; H. D. Turner, painting; Mrs. E. £. .Richmond, painting ; Miss £ Silk, painting ; Miss Edith Richardson, painting; C. D. Barraud, | painting ; Minister of Lands and Mines, minerals, maps and statistics ; Joseph Gant, Maori painting ; Hqrry Wrigg, pen and ink sketch; Mrs. atowe, painting; JohnTasker, painting ; Mr. and Mrs. Merritt, painting ; Conolly and Hermann, photographs ; Minister of Public Works, specimen of timber, map, and photo of works ; F. H. Tronson, plan of Wellington and fire alarm ; 6. H. Linley, carvirgs; Hilltard and Nathan, lightning • olecner ; S. D. Parnell, table easels; Gear Meat Company, products; J. Hebley, stiuks, Maori earrings; Professor Kirk, timber and foliage ; £. Arnold, basketware ; W. H. P. Barber, dyed goods ; J. W. Kinniberg, clutch for lift ; B. M. Simpson, irrigation pump: Hayes and Jenkins, totalisator; Wellington Harbour Board, maps ; Captain Holliday, maps ; W. J. Boat, coffee extractor; F. M. Gordon, saaoe; G. Bwtin, model of stable ; H. H. Travera, ferns ; C. Pownail, rabbit trap and fibre scraper ; Mrs. Brodie, painting ; Sir Jag. Hector, Maori house, &o. ; W; B. Allen, wool ; E. Cobb, wool ; W. 11. Edwards, Venetian blinds ; W. Cole, batter box; Hammond and Bishop, cask tilter. The committee also reported that although the canvas for exhibits of wool was began too late for the past clip of wool, there was likely to be a very creditable display of the New Zealand staple at the later Exhibition, the Chief Inspector of Bheep having undertaken to make a thoroughly representative collection from the best flooks, and to furnish foil particulars of the localities where the wool was grown.
