At the Mongonui Resident Magistrate's Court, Thomas Bergham was connoted of three oharges of selfinsr brandy at the Awanui races on 15th Match, he not being licensed to do so, and was fined on each ■sVV^ 6 .*, 116 total Penalties imposed being }\ with posts 417. Three natives aho pleaded Guilty of sly-grog selling on the same occasion, and were fined £5 and costs each. They stated in extenuation that they tad been aoting under the instructions of Bergham. Edward Sandall, a butcher, pleaded Guilty at the Polioe Court to-day to slaughtering two sheep upon his butohering promises, in the midst of a thickly-populated district, and was fined 40a and oosts. The sum of 433 2s 3d, surplus of the fund raised for the sports to the officers and men of Admiral Fairfax's squadron during their stay in this city, has been devoted to the purohase of a library for the inmates of the Whau Lunatio Asylum. • T A & A ™ ndale Hotel was burnt down last night.
