DR. DRYSDALE AND DUNEDIN MAST. TO THE EDITOR.
Sir— >For the credit of my country I hope it is safe to beliove that tho unnecessary insult cast on the Dnnedin East constituency will be repudiated by every elector in this colony who has sufficient sense to refuse to be any more despoiled by the Egytians, and sufficient self-respect to decline to bow the knee to the gilded calf. That Dr. Drysdale's remarks should be viewed with disgust by the judioiouß becomes veryapparentongoingover the causes which led to the election. Those causes are too well known to need repeating here. Suffice it to say that the appeal to the people was Sir Robert's own appeal, made for no other purpose than to keep himself personally in power, and that the manner of it was more degrading than that of any previous appeal since the colony began. A deliberate attempt baa been made to flood Parliament with a flock of political nincompoops (as had been previonsly attempted in tegard to the Upper House) for the sole purpose of raising (to appearances only) the position of Sir Robert by lowering tho tone of the representative institution of this colony and people. Dunedin East has done tho State great service, and tho insult cast on the electors of that constituency will be folt equally by overy other district which has deolared against the Into Promier. I am, &c, H. Bodlet. 29th September, 1887.
