Last night a nine-roomed honse in Eng-land-street, Ponsonby, owned and oocupied by Mrs. Potts, a widow, was destroyed by flro, which originated in the kitchen. The house was insured for .£2OO and the furniture for ,£lOO, both in the South British. A firo occurred in Wellington-street this morning, destroying the shop occupied by Mr. M'Namara, grooor, and two cottages occupied by Messrs. John Mallett and \villiam Robertson, all belonging to Mr. James Lyell. The fire originated in the shop. The insurance on the buildings is .£325 in the South Briti h, and on th« stook and furniture .£3OO in tho Royal. CHRIBTCHURCH, THIB DAY. The railway station at Darfield, on the Malvern line, was burned down at 2 30 this morning. The cash only was saved. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
